Harm reduction for youth is an approach that provides young people with accurate, age-appropriate information, tools, and support to help them make safer choices regarding substance use and other high-risk behaviors. Rather than focusing solely on abstinence, youth-focused harm reduction acknowledges that young people may experiment with substances and aims to minimize risks associated with these choices. Programs in British Columbia, like those offered by Foundry BC and the BC Centre for Disease Control, are tailored to meet the needs of youth, providing non-judgmental support, education, and resources.
